A wine everybody speaks about, yet nobody can ignore – a must to remember!
This Feteasca Neagrã is the main wine of the Caloian series. A series that, as we have come to expect from Crama Oprisor, is inspired by local traditions. The name Caloian refers to an ancient ritual custom where, on the 3rd Tuesday after the Orthodox celebration of Easter, a doll made of clay or wood is used: the Caloian. Boys and girls get together and dance the traditional dance “hora” until late in the evening. Traditional instruments such as the flute and cimpoi (bagpipes) are often played, and songs invoking rain and abundance are sung.
The indigenous and noble grape Feteasca Neagrã is also called ‘the black maiden ‘ and dates back to the time of the Dacians. An ancient grape variety, originally grown between the Carpathians and the Nistru River in eastern Romania. Thanks to its qualities and its ability to adapt to the climatic conditions of this area, we find this variety throughout Romania and Moldova.
Tasting Description
A ruby red wine with intense aromas of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry. A youthful fruit explosion with a velvety taste and round tannins. A very seductive wine, which can be served slightly chilled.
Serving suggestion
An excellent companion to light spicy dishes, salads with grilled vegetables, mushrooms and potato dishes.
Winemaking
The crushed grapes undergo cold soaking for quite some time before alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The cold soaking produces a lot of aromatic substances, tannin and color. The must is stirred regularly during and after alcoholic fermentation. This creates a lot of flavor, creaminess and structure.
