The mysterious Sânziene, a line of fairies, have the power to bestow good luck, to cure diseases and to bless the “water of stars” (the dew of the morning after the Sânziene Night), but also the power to take the minds of those who watch them dance over lakes and treasures. When the Roman Sancta Diana became the Romanian Sânziana, local mythology retained the birth of the Drăgaicei (from “the dear one”), beings who, on Midsummer Night, banish evil and herald love. If the villagers do not disturb the peace of the spirits by drawing water from the well at night, nor commit other such sins, Drăgaica takes care of the crops and protects from diseases the children held in the arms of the virgins dancing the hora (traditional Romanian dance).
“Good things happen to those who know how to wait,” they say. And this wine is proof that hard work and patience do not go unrewarded.
