The Prestige range, developed under the royal coat of arms and composed of five white and three red wines, is a statement born to carry the founding values of Segarcea as far as possible. Each of the eight Prestige wines is the perfect opportunity to enter the world of those for whom a glass of wine is always a story about the beauty of life.
Although the Fetească albă variety, traditionally Romanian, is used extremely often for the creation of popular wines, in Segarcea it finds its true nobility, which ensures the richness of grape aromas.
The wine is soft, almost fragile, with intense aromas of freshly blossomed white acacia flowers. The taste is dominated by freshness, almost crunchy and it reveals a citric acidity that balances the whole excellently. An energizing and comforting wine, excellent for hot days
Recommended temperature: 11ºC – 13ºC.
The grapes, harvested mechanically, were crushed and kept for film maceration at temperatures between 8° C – 10° C for 12 hours. A light pressing followed and slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 15º C – 17º C. The wine matured on fine yeasts for 3-5 months.
Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Piemonte en “Domeniul Coroanei” Segarcea share the 44º parallel, the unparalleled wine parallel.
The vineyard of ”Domeniul Coroanei” covers 277 hectares. The location in an amphitheater open to the south ensures a record number of hours of sunshine per vegetation cycle (from the first buds in spring to hibernation). The soil consists of a layer of chernozem, under which there is a layer of limestone, then a former seabed, this structure providing the wine with the acidity that perfectly complements the character of well-ripened fruits of wines.
The 277 hectares cultivated with vines have been completely replanted, except for a few old stumps more than a century old, which helped save a unique variety, ”Tămâioasa Roză”.
The estate has 14.6 hectares of Fetească albă, planted with a density of 5,600 plants per hectare. The pruning mode is simple Guyot. For this range, plots with an average production of 8 tons/ha are chosen.
“In all the works performed in the vineyard, we try to be as close as possible to the traditional methods and to use the most suitable solutions so that we coexist with nature, not exploit it. From grassing (to combat excess water after rains) to drainage, from a minimum of synthetic substances to over 30,000 rose nests planted at each end of the row to warn us in time from impending infections such as downy mildew, powdery mildew or other vine infections we try to create a harmonious whole and the biodiversity (both flora and fauna) reborn around the winery is proof that we have chosen the best path.”
