“Snow is falling, my love.
And I can’t seem to remember the last time I felt warm. Certainly not after you left. No, I won’t feel sorry for myself. But can days be days with no light. Without you…..”
The labels of the Blue Train series reveal a piece of the love stories that must have taken place at a time when kings and aristocrats of Romania were embarking Le Train Blue “the most beautiful train in the world” for their journeys on the Simplon-Orient- Express line from Bucharest to London, Paris or maybe even Istanbul and Athene.
The Blue Train has been the train of the European aristocracy since the dawn of the twentieth century. In Romania, the “Blue Train” lived a glorious life: built for Carol I, the train always carried on its ways through the century, the kings and aristocrats of Romania to important duties and witnessed a turbulent history. Enjoying the Blue Train range of RED, white and rose wines, you manage to capture for a moment the richness of that life, where principles, values, intrigues create baroque palace stories.
A wine created in a classic spirit, from the harvest reduced to 6 tons/ha to the year spent in French oak barrels, followed by a period of one year of ageing in bottle, to integrate the aromas acquired from the contact with wood. The result is a full-bodied, sober wine, with a dominant aroma of berries, the sharpness of aromatic herbs, all wrapped in the unmistakable aroma of wood and vanilla of a barrique wine. The taste reveals a complex structure of the wine, with fruit aromas complemented by subtle shades of roasted wood, spice and liquorice.
Tasting notes – Klazien Vermeer, Dutch Wine Academy level 4 (vinoloog), Wine instructor
Dark red wine with lots of fruit expression, velvety cherry, black fruit, smooth, juicy, laurel and spice, wood aging, soft, lots of body and length in terms of finish.
Serving tip
This wine is versatile and combines nicely with both meat and vegetable dishes. It is also delicious with hard cheeses. Recommended temperature: 16ºC – 18ºC.
Winemaking
The grapes, mechanically harvested, were crushed and then kept for maceration-fermentation in piston wineries for two weeks. The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels of first and second passage, for a period of one year.
Winery
Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Piemonte en “Domeniul Coroanei” Segarcea share the 44º parallel, the unparalleled wine parallel.
The vineyard of ”Domeniul Coroanei” covers 277 hectares. The location in an amphitheater open to the south ensures a record number of hours of sunshine per vegetation cycle (from the first buds in spring to hibernation). The soil consists of a layer of chernozem, under which there is a layer of limestone, then a former seabed, this structure providing the wine with the acidity that perfectly complements the character of well-ripened fruits of wines.
The 277 hectares cultivated with vines have been completely replanted, except for a few old stumps more than a century old, which helped save a unique variety, ”Tămâioasa Roză”.
The estate has 24.7 hectares of Merlot, planted with a density of 5,600 plants per hectare. The pruning mode is simple Guyot. For this range, plots with a production of 6 tons/ha are chosen.
“In all the works performed in the vineyard, we try to be as close as possible to the traditional methods and to use the most suitable solutions so that we coexist with nature, not exploit it. From grassing (to combat excess water after rains) to drainage, from a minimum of synthetic substances to over 30,000 rose nests planted at each end of the row to warn us in time from impending infections such as downy mildew, powdery mildew or other vine infections we try to create a harmonious whole and the biodiversity (both flora and fauna) reborn around the winery is proof that we have chosen the best path.”
